Welcome to the Tasmanian Branch of the Australian and New Zealand Forensic Science Society

Upcoming Meetings (2021)

Wednesday 29th September 6pm New Sydney Hotel

Abstract

This presentation will be about three main aspects of entomology. First, I will give a general overview of Forensic Entomology as a tool for determining the Postmortem Interval (PMI). This will set the context for the remaining parts. Next, I will give a brief overview of Anthropological Research Facilities (“Body Farms”) and the types of entomological research conducted at these locations, working with the FBI and wheelie bin research. Finally, I will share an overview of the research and new technologies that have become useful tools for determining the PMI. I will discuss Hyperspectral Imaging, FLIR technology and why is it important to determine temperatures in cars.
