The ANZFSS SA Branch Professional Development Award

The Award

The ANZFSS SA Branch Professional Development Award will be offered biennially in a non-Symposium year and is open to Life, General and Student members.  The purpose of the Award is to provide financial support to members so that they can attend a professional development event which will help to further develop their skills, knowledge or expertise in their chosen field. The professional development event may be a notable forensic conference, workshop, training course or visit to another laboratory/organisation to learn a specific skill. Financial support is offered for professional development activities both within Australia ($1000 stipend) and internationally ($3000 stipend).  Applicants across all levels of expertise and experience will be considered. Only one Award will be offered per biennium.

Selection Criteria

The selection criteria will include the following:

  • The nature and value of the professional development activity
  • The likely benefit to the applicant, their organisation and the ANZFSS community
  • The commitment of the applicant to the ANZFSS SA Branch
  • The quality of the application
  • The support of your organisation / supervisor to attend the activity

The ANZFSS SA Branch Committee will nominate a selection panel to assess applications. Applicants will be notified of the outcome within 2 weeks of the submission deadline. Applications must be made via the official application form (available below) and submitted electronically to the SA Branch secretary at Late applications will not be accepted.

Applicants must be current financial Life, General or Student members of the ANZFSS with a minimum membership period of 12 months. Applicants must complete the official application form and address all the selection criteria.

The Awardee must attend the proposed professional development activity within 1 year of the submission deadline.

Following attendance at the event, the Awardee must provide a short (1 page) summary of the outcomes of the development activity, highlighting how it benefitted them, their organisation and ANZFSS. This may be published in the SA Branch Newsletter and/or on the website. The Awardee is also required to give this summary as a short (5 minute) oral presentation at a subsequent SA Branch meeting.

The Awardee will consent to the use of their imagery by the SA Branch in its publications and/or marketing activities.

The Awardee must acknowledge the Award and the support provided by the SA Branch in any publication, article or presentation that results from the information gained.

The Awardee is responsible for managing all of their own bookings and travel requirements, including medical and travel insurance.
