The ANZFSS Executive is:
|President:Professor Adrian LINACRE, Flinders University, SA (since 2016)
Adrian works at Flinders University and leads the forensic DNA research group. The main goals of the research team are to develop new methods of obtaining DNA data from sub-optimal traces of DNA. This is for both human and wildlife DNA typing. A list of recent publications can be found at this link.
|Vice-President:Mrs Alison SEARS, Forensic & Analytical Science Service, NSW Government (since 2016)
Alison is a Senior Forensic Biologist in the Case Management Unit, NSW Forensic and Analytical Science Service (NSW FASS). Operationally, she is involved with the analysis and reporting of DNA testing for criminal and coronial matters including DVI, as well as providing expert evidence to the Courts of NSW. Alison is an experienced bloodstain pattern analyst, is a certified trainer and assessor, and strongly involved with many facets of industry-related research, development and teaching.
|Vice-President (New Zealand): Professor James CURRAN, The University of Auckland (non-elected position; President of New Zealand Forensic Science Society) (since 2016)
James works at the University of Auckland in the Department of Statistics. His area of interest is broadly in statistical problems in forensic science. He has published widely on DNA and glass, especially in the areas of interpretation. A list of recent journal publications can be found here.
|Treasurer: Dr Kate GRIMWOOD (since 2016)
Dr Katharine (Kate) Grimwood holds a Bachelor of Applied Chemistry with Honours in Forensic Science and has received her Doctorate in Forensic Fire Science Investigation from the University of Technology, Sydney. Kate has also received additional qualifications and gained operational experience in Fire Investigation and Post Blast Investigation.
During her career Kate has been employed by State Fire Services (NSW and SA) were she provided HAZMAT operational advice, HAZMAT technical development and instruction for HAZMAT technicians and operators. Kate has also developed course material for Fire and Explosion Investigation for tertiary education facilities.
|Secretary: Dr Carolyne BIRD, Forensic Science SA (since 2016)
Carolyne is the Science Leader – Document Examination Section, and Senior Forensic Scientist at Forensic Science SA. She has a Bachelor of Science (Honours) from the Flinders University of South Australia, and a Doctor of Philosophy from La Trobe University, Melbourne, for which she undertook research into the skill of forensic handwriting experts in identifying disguised and simulated handwritten text.
