Code of Professional Practice

Forensic practitioners who are members of the ANZFSS are bound by a Code of Professional Practice, available here.  This Code replaces the previous Code of Ethics.  The intent of the new Code is to provide a clear and concise summary of the professional roles and responsibilities of forensic practitioners to 1) society, 2) clients and/or employers and 3) in general.  Practitioners also have responsibilities to the justice system, and it is expected that that these be addressed by the relevant judicial codes in the jurisdiction in which the practitioner works.

The Code was endorsed at the Annual General Meeting of the Society on 4 September 2014 in conjunction with Version 6 of the Rules of Association.  In the current version of the Rules, it states:

11      Code of Professional Practice

(1)       The Society shall adopt the Society Code of Professional Practice.

(2)      All Life, Professional and General Members appearing as expert witnesses will, in addition, comply with the court codes or guides for expert witnesses for the relevant jurisdiction.
